Annual First Day Hike – Southwest Virginia Museum
Big Stone Gap, VA. The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will host its annual First Day Hike on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m.
Participants will meet rangers at the front gate of the museum and take a walk-through time as they begin their hike on the grounds of the museum. They will then make their way down a portion of the Big Stone Gap Greenbelt along the beautiful Powell River, and then end up back in the Poplar Hill area of town. Throughout the hike, rangers will share information about the history of the town itself, as well as share and point out interesting architectural details on many of the historic homes and buildings in the area.
This is a moderate hike. Guests are asked to wear appropriate shoes and clothing for the weather. In the event of inclement weather, the hike will be canceled.
