Junior Ranger Program at Southwest Virginia Museum

The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park is excited to announce their first ever Junior Ranger Program.
The camp will begin on Monday, July 12 and will run through Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. until noon, and will serve students ages 7 to 12.
Activities will include:
Discover what native wildlife calls the mountains home.
Be transported back in time to the year 1775. Learn the basics of fire starting and shelter making.
Discussions on clothing, cooking, tools, and trade will immerse Junior Rangers in life on Virginia’s frontier 246 years ago.
Get ready to explore the region’s unique geology in the beautiful Southwest Virginia.
Explore the Powell River and learn what aquatic life live in the river.
Tour the museum and learn about the exploration and development of Southwest Virginia in the Victorian Era.
Other activities will include a scavenger hunt, games and a visit to the splash pad at Bullitt Park.
The fee for the program is $25 per child. Each participant will receive a junior ranger t-shirt and a certificate at the end of the program. A snack will be provided each day. Be sure to register by Wednesday, July 7.
A graduation and awards ceremony will be conducted at noon on the final day of the program with family and friends invited to attend with light refreshments provided by the park.
For the safety of the children during this week of fun outdoor experiences, hats, sunblock, and bug spray are recommended.
The park will comply with the Covid 19 regulations that are in place at the time the program is offered.
