Red Fox Story Telling Festival – Pound VA

Join us for the annual Red Fox Storytelling Festival in Pound, VA for storytelling, live music, a square dance, and a presentation of the story of Granny Shores – a midwife that delivered over 1,000 babies around the Pound area in the 1800’s, recently featured in a new mural in Pound.
FRIDAY:
7:00 PM – Screening of “Red Fox/Second Hanging” at Town Hall. The Pound Lions club will provide popcorn and snacks.
SATURDAY:
9:00 AM – Trail run “Chasing the Red Fox” along the Red Fox Trail (sponsored by the in the Pound Tourism Committee) on Pine Mountain National Forest near Pound. Signups start at 8:30am on Saturday, race starts at 9:00am. Meet at the Cumberland Fur and Fish Fame Club at 12245 Potter Town Rd, Pound, VA 24279 Pound, VA ( the start of the Red Fox Trail)
1:00 PM – Storytelling and music at Town of Pound Town Hall which will feature:
-Local spooky stories, including the Vampire of Big Stone Gap and scary stories from the coal mines of Southwest Virginia.
-A 1 woman play about the life of Granny Shores, a mid-wife who delivered 1,000 babies in Eastern Kentucky and SW VA in the late 1800’s. She is the focus of a new mural in Downtown Pound.
-A new play and creative stories by Harlan County’s Higher Ground Theater troupe.
-A presentation of the story of Edith Maxwell, The Slipper Slayer of Pound, who rose to national fame during the 1920’s.
-Local musician Kevin Howard will be playing oldtime music and traditional banjo in between storytellers.
5:00PM – The festival will close with a square dance, with players from across Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Festivities will wrap up around 6pm.
