Prowl the Powell – Origins of the Powell

When

April 19, 2025. 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

The first installment of the “Prowl the Powell” nature series will take place on Saturday, April 19 at 10 am. Participants for the program entitled “Origins of the Powell” will meet park rangers at Powell River Trail trailhead in Appalachia, Virginia. Once on the trail, participants will explore and discover many aspects of the natural and cultural history of the Powell River and its valley. The walk will be 2.4 miles long (out and back) and last approximately one hour.

Considered the second most biodiverse waterway in the nation, just behind the Clinch River with which it converges, the Powell River is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife and environmental wonders, not to mention the intriguing human-related stories associated with the surrounding area. Please join us.

All “Prowl the Powell” programs will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. Registration is not required for this program.
