Feature a “Caring for your Cast Iron” Workshop for September Workshop

Big Stone Gap, VA. The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park continues its 2024 monthly workshops with the September theme of “Caring for your Cast Iron,” taught by park staff and volunteers. The “Caring for your Cast Iron” workshop will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Museum’s Victorian parlor.

Participants who attend the “Caring for your Cast Iron” workshop will learn about the history and evolution of cast iron cookware, discuss techniques for cooking, cleaning, seasoning and storing their cast iron cookware and talk about the science behind dispelling common myths about cast iron. They will learn multiple methods to create their own seasoning, along with a small sample to take home. Participants will make their own hand-made custom potholder as well.

The fee for the “Caring for your Cast iron” workshop is $15 per person. All supplies and materials are included. Registration is required.
