Big Stone Gap, VA. The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will offer a monthly Prowl the Powell nature series on the third Saturday of each month. The August series will be on Saturday, August 17, from 9 a.m. until noon. The monthly Prowl the Powell nature series will be hosted by park rangers and volunteers.

Participants who are interested in the Prowl the Powell nature series should meet volunteers and park staff at the front gate of the museum. Dates will stay the same, but times are subject to change. The August “Prowl the Powell” nature series will be “Insects.” Join Park rangers and volunteers for a walk along the Powell River in Big Stone Gap. Guests will learn about the crawly and flying things that call the Powell River and its valley home. Guests will leave the program with a greater understanding and appreciation for the critical importance of the insects as a pinnacle member of the food chain and how important insects are to the natural world.

The Prowl the Powell monthly nature series will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. Registration is not required for this program.
