Powell River Pirate (aka Tracy Buckles)

About The Artist

Having grown up in SWVA—Big Stone Gap, specifically—and with an ancestry going back to pioneers, I have a deep connection to these mountains and valleys. It is from the banks of the Powell River that I harvest what could be considered trash, crafting it into treasure! Ceramics, glass, rocks, metal and even plastic, river-tumbled into interesting shapes and textures they become “gems.”  The jewelry, sculpture and other items I design, utilizing these “gems”, are unique keepsakes from a unique culture—past and present. As an artist, I have experience with a variety of mediums but the addition of “River Booty” has been an unexpected joy!
