Description:

A week long celebration leading up to July 4th. The Town of Big Stone Gap is painted red, white, and, blue as the celebration for our country’s independence is honored. Live music performances by area bands, food vendors from all over SW Virginia, games, inflatables, races, contests, and more! An event for all ages leading up to the 4th of July parade and a huge outdoor concert at Bullitt Park. The celebration concludes at dusk with one of the greatest fireworks displays around!

Friday – JUNE 28th

  • F-3 Inaugural Corn hole Tournament – $20 buy in! 6pm and the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center!
    We would like to announce a special partnership with
    Curklin’s! They will be setting up to provide beverages for any thirsty bag throwers and spectators! We are very grateful for their support and are looking forward to seeing them setup at our event this Friday!
    Not interested in playing? We will also have music playing! snow cones to be enjoyed from Appalachian Shaved Ice and pup cups and other goodies available for our canine friends provided by Virginia Dog Training !

SATURDAY – JUNE 29th

  • Lonesome Pine Soap Box Derby Race!  Who will take home the big trophy? Adult, kids, business, and municipal divisions! Come on down and have a great summer time race with us!
  • Hawaiian Luau Block Party at the Visitor Center 5p -11p. Wear your best Hawaiian outfits and stretch your toes in the sand! DJ JP Rooftop DJ!!!!!!!!! Best Hawaiian Shirt Contest, Snow Cones, Giant Sand Box, Food Trucks, Music, Cornhole, Games, Contest, and Prizes!
  • The Gap Partnership presents THE BAND IN THE SAND -Come on down to the GIANT SAND BOX and run your toes through the sand while you kick back and enjoy a cold drink while listening to live summer music!

SUNDAY – JUNE 30th

MONDAY – JULY 1st

  • Coaches: Coach Robbie Collins (returning champion from last year) and Coach Barry Jones
    Commentators: BJ Richardson (Union Sports Network), and Thomas Potter (4X VA State Champion for Union)
    Rematch from last year: Dylan Lane vs Ned Spears
    Official: Roger Mullins
    Here is the link for former Appalachia, Powell Valley, and Union wrestlers to show up and help us show wrestling to our community. $25 entry fee due day of match for those who join. All proceeds will be donated by the town to Union Wrestling.
    Wrestlers need to arrive by 6:00PM for weigh in. Madison weight system will be used.

  • Far Fetched Grooming & Boarding Pet Show @ Miners Park 6pm. Prizes& Awards for: Most Exotic, Best Dressed, Pet/Owner Twinsies, Top Dog, Champion Cat, Funniest, Most Unique, Best Personality, Best Trick, Ruby’s Pick. Sponsored by Far Fetched Grooming of Big Stone Gap.

WEDNESDAY – JULY 3rd

THURSDAY JULY 4th

  • Gap Partnership Pancake & Mimosa Breakfast @ Visitor Center 8am – 11pm.
  • 4th of July Freedom 5k @ Visitor Center – 9am – Day of Registration starts at 8am
  • FOURTH OF JULY PARADE through Wood Ave 4pm. Dairy Queen will be set up at the Visitor Center handing out Red White and Blue Dilly Bars!
  • BIG STONE GAP’S IDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT BULLITT PARK 4pm – 11pm. $5 entry fee kids 12 and under free. Food Trucks, Inflatables, Cornhole Tournament, Wine/Beer & Beer Cart. Live Music starting at 4pm till fireworks! Das Novas and The BookHead SweetTooth Band will be opening for Bad Romeo! DJ Jahmal Potter will be your host for the evening! One of the best Fireworks Displays in SW Virginia starts at dusk!
