The Winds of the Mountain Empire, founded by conductor Dr. Donald Sorah in 2006, is a sixty piece professional wind ensemble primarily comprised of musicians from the southwest Virginia, northeast Tennessee, and southeast Kentucky regions that convenes each July and alternating Decembers (2025, 2027, etc.) for professional development culminating in a engaging public performance.
