Joey O’Quinn Information

Joey O’Quinn, a resident of Big Stone Gap, the son and grandson of Union coal miners, is a mountain music enthusiast that primarily plays and teaches banjo and guitar. He writes and performs songs related to his Appalachian experiences.

Although he is currently part of a local string band, “Hillbilly Hippies, and with the “Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama”, he also does solo shows at local coffee houses, schools, theaters, and eateries; featuring stories and tunes from, and about, the Appalachian Mountains.

He loves working part time at the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center where he’ll play songs for travelers and tourists. Joey teaches in the Junior Appalachian Music School at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park and Mountain Music School at Mountain Empire Community College.

Joey is married to Geneva O’Quinn and they have three children and three grandchildren.
