Big Cherry Lake is a 2,200-acre park in Big Stone Gap that features a 250-acre lake that is a fisherman’s paradise. Accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicle only, Big Cherry features a variety of fish, including bass, trout, and muskie. If you’re a hunter, the area is loaded with game, and hunting is permitted seasonally.
Big Cherry Lake is also a great place for boating, including canoeing, kayaking.
Another great spot is the charming Greenbelt Trail, which surrounds the town. Following the Powell River, the Greenbelt can be accessed from many points around Big Stone Gap, including Bullitt Park. This relaxing path offers leisure walking and biking for nearly two miles with opportunities to find whimsical carvings and watch birds and wildlife year-round.
Outdoor lovers can also go hiking at nearby Roaring Branch in the Jefferson National Forest, or enjoy the other national forest trail and sites that surround Big Stone Gap.
