Mardi Gras Party featuring Ron Short & The Possum Playboys – GoodTimes
Alright Big Stone Gap… it’s time to get a little wild.

Mardi Gras at GoodTimes is happening Saturday 2/28 and we are bringing the party straight to the mountains.
From 7–10PM, Ron Short and The Possum Playboys will be on stage, and if you’ve ever seen them live, you already know this is not a sit-down kind of night.
The Possum Playboys keep alive the tradition of bands that once traveled the two-lane highways of America, playing music meant for companionship, dancing, and pure fun. With fiddle, slide guitar, and Cajun accordion, they move from swamp to swing, early rock to be-bop, all while staying rooted in the earthy tones of Appalachian music. It’s lively, it’s soulful, and it will absolutely have your feet tapping and hips swinging. Ron Short, born in Dickenson County, Virginia, is a veteran singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and playwright. He has performed everywhere from Lincoln Center in New York City to small mountain churches and festivals like FloydFest and Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music. His music ranges from traditional Old Regular Baptist singing to fresh Americana songwriting, and he believes live performance is where music truly comes alive. That energy is exactly what he brings to every stage.
This night is proudly sponsored by Powell Valley Dental right here in Big Stone Gap. Led by Dr. Kevin Allred, they provide comprehensive family and cosmetic dentistry for all ages, offering everything from cleanings and whitening to implants and veneers. They focus on personalized, compassionate care and use modern technology to make visits simple and comfortable. We are grateful to have local businesses like them supporting live music and community events.
This is one of those nights that feels special, like New Orleans met Appalachia and decided to throw a party in the mountains.
Come hungry.
Come dressed up.
Come ready to dance.
Let’s make it loud.
