Penchants & Proclicities Collectors Event – Southwest Virginia Museum
To collect is as old as humankind. Our natural need to gather and covet objects may have been born originally out of survival and necessity, but collecting as a pastime has evolved into an entire industry, especially with the advent of the internet. The question is… what do you collect? Stamps, coins, baseball cards, bottles, stickers, toys, magnets, you name it! The list is endless!
To provide an opportunity for local collectors to share their objects and knowledge, on Saturday, March 29 from 1-4pm, the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will host “Penchants and Proclivities”, the first in a series of events showcasing personal collections from around the region. During these events, participants are invited to display and share their collections with the visiting public in the museum’s Victorian Parlor.
In addition, each event in the series will showcase a presentation from a different subject matter expert spotlighting a particular area of collecting. The topic for this first event will discuss local soda bottlers and the range of products they generated.
Reservations are required and collectors wishing to set up a display should reserve a space no later than Friday, March 21. To register, or ask questions about criteria and other guidelines, call the park at 276-523-1322 or email swvamuseum@dcr.virginia.gov.
